Room Area Calculator

Calculate area per room and total area for equal rectangular rooms.

m
m

Enter length, width, and count

Choose metres or feet first. Measure the internal length and width of one rectangular room, then enter how many equal rooms to add. Existing dimensions are converted when you switch unit systems.

Area per room and total area

A room measuring 5 m by 4 m has an area of 20 m². Three equal rooms total 60 m². The result also shows total area in the other area unit.

Alcoves and exclusions

Measure rectangular alcoves as additional sections and add them. Calculate columns, shafts, or other excluded sections separately and subtract them from total area.

Irregular rooms

Split L-shaped and other plans into rectangles or simple shapes. Calculate each section and add the results. Sloped ceilings and legal floor-area rules are not included; use the appropriate local measurement method for those.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate a rectangular room's area?
Multiply internal length by internal width. The calculator performs that multiplication in metres or feet.
How do I add several equal rooms?
Enter the count. One room's area is multiplied by that whole number and shown as total area.
How do I include alcoves or exclusions?
Calculate alcoves as additional sections. Calculate excluded sections separately and subtract them from the result.
Can I use feet and metres?
Yes. Choose the unit system. Total area is also shown in the other area unit.
How is this different from an area converter?
This calculator derives area from room dimensions. An area converter changes a known area value between units.
How should I handle an irregular room?
Split the plan into rectangles or simple shapes, calculate each section, and add or subtract the partial areas.
