Date Calculator

Compare two dates or add and subtract days from one date to calculate the interval or resulting date.

Calculation

How to compare two dates

Select “Days between two dates,” then enter the start date followed by the end date. Enable inclusive counting only when both calendar dates belong to the period you want to count.

Total days and calendar difference

Total days measures the elapsed interval. The calendar difference splits it into full years, then full months, and finally remaining days. Approximate weeks and months are provided only as context.

Inclusive counting

One day elapses from March 1 to March 2. If both dates count as calendar days, the inclusive result is two days. This option does not change the calendar decomposition.

Leap years and month ends

February 29 is treated as a real calendar day. When shifting a date, the sequence is preserved: one day after February 28, 2024 is February 29, and one more day reaches March 1.

Add or subtract days

Select the date-offset mode, enter the base date, and then a whole number. Positive values move forward and negative values move backward. The result includes the destination date and weekday.

Limits of the calculation

The calculator counts calendar days in UTC. It does not account for times, time zones, daylight saving time, holidays, or working days. Legal deadlines may follow additional rules.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the start date included?
By default, the difference shows elapsed days and does not count the start date. Enable inclusive counting to count both the start and end dates.
Why are two months not always the same number of days?
Calendar months contain 28 to 31 days. The same calendar interval can therefore represent different total day counts.
How does the calculator handle February 29?
Valid leap days are included. Adding days crosses February 29 exactly like any other calendar date.
Can I add or subtract days from a date?
Yes. Select the second mode and enter a positive number to add days or a negative number to subtract them.
What happens when the end date is before the start date?
The calculator shows the absolute interval and labels the dates as being in reverse order.
How does the calendar difference differ from total days?
Total days counts every elapsed day. The calendar difference decomposes the same interval into full years, then months, then remaining days.
