Deductions between gross and net pay

The calculator subtracts pension, health, and—where applicable—unemployment insurance plus the housing contribution from regular monthly gross salary. It then estimates wage tax from annualized income and the stored tax credits.

How to use the calculator

  1. Select the tax year for the applicable tariff and ASVG values.
  2. Enter your regular gross salary per month.
  3. Select the modeled number of children and, if relevant, the single-earner assumption.
  4. Review monthly net pay, annual totals, and each deduction in the result.

Annual values and special payments

The annual values represent twelve equal regular monthly salaries. Austria treats 13th and 14th salary payments differently for tax and social insurance, and this estimate does not include them. Do not add special payments to the displayed annual result without a separate calculation.

Example and estimate limits

For €3,500 of monthly gross salary, the result separates social insurance from wage tax. Children and single-earner inputs are modeling assumptions, not eligibility checks. Commuter allowance, benefits in kind, individual allowances, special payments, and other payroll details can change actual net pay.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which deductions sit between gross and net pay?
The calculator includes pension, health, and—where applicable—unemployment insurance, the housing contribution, and estimated wage tax.
How are 13th and 14th salary payments handled?
They are excluded. Displayed annual values represent twelve regular monthly salaries. Austrian special payments use different rules and require a separate calculation.
What role does social insurance play?
ASVG employee contributions apply to monthly gross salary up to the relevant maximum contribution base. The calculator lists each included component.
Are commuter allowance or Family Bonus Plus included?
The number of children models the stored family bonus without checking eligibility. Commuter allowance and other personal deductions are excluded.
Why can an actual payslip differ?
Special payments, benefits in kind, commuter allowance, personal allowances, payroll rounding, and other employment details can change actual net pay.
Which year do the values cover?
You select a tax year from 2017 through 2026. The calculator loads the centrally stored Austrian tariff and ASVG rules for that year.
