Deductions between gross and net pay

The calculator estimates wage tax, the solidarity surcharge, and optional church tax. It also subtracts employee pension, health, long-term care, and unemployment insurance. The remaining regular monthly salary is shown as net pay.

How to use the calculator

  1. Select the tax year and enter regular monthly gross salary.
  2. Choose the tax class used on your payslip.
  3. Select the church-tax rate and enable church tax only when it applies.
  4. Enter tax child allowances and care-insurance children separately, then calculate estimated net pay.

Tax class, health insurance, and children

Tax class changes payroll withholding, not necessarily final annual income tax. For 2026 the average supplementary health rate is 2.9%. PAP child allowances affect only surcharge-tax bases; care-insurance children separately control the surcharge and discounts.

Annual values and estimate limits

Annual values represent twelve equal monthly salaries. Bonuses, one-off payments, company pension contributions, private insurance, Saxony, and personal allowances are excluded. An actual payslip can therefore differ.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which deductions sit between gross and net pay?
The calculator includes wage tax, the solidarity surcharge, optional church tax, and employee pension, health, long-term care, and unemployment insurance.
What role does the German tax class play?
It changes monthly wage-tax withholding. Final annual income tax is determined separately and can differ from the total amount withheld during the year.
How does the health-insurance supplementary rate affect the result?
For 2026 the calculator uses the 14.6% general rate plus the official 2.9% average supplementary rate, shared equally by employee and employer. Your insurer's actual supplementary rate may differ.
Are church tax and child allowances included?
Church tax is modeled only when enabled, using 8% or 9% of the PAP assessment base. Child allowances do not alter wage tax; they affect only solidarity surcharge and church tax. Care-insurance children are selected separately.
Why can an actual payslip differ?
Bonuses, one-off payments, benefits in kind, company pensions, private insurance, Saxony, and personal allowances can produce different amounts.
Which tax year do the values cover?
You select a year from 2017 through 2026. The calculator loads the centrally stored German tariff and social-insurance rules for that year.
