Estimate Canadian Old Age Security from start age, years of residence, and income, including a possible recovery tax.
Separate full and partial OAS
Old Age Security is a Canadian benefit whose amount depends partly on residence history and start age. The calculator weights the maximum resolved for the stated payment period by the residence years entered.
How to read the estimate
Select a start age from 65 to 70.
Enter 10 to 40 years of residence after age 18.
Add expected annual net income.
Select the age-75 increase only for a payment period at that age.
Deferral and recovery tax
A later start raises the modeled monthly amount. Income above the threshold for the applicable July-to-June recovery period can trigger recovery tax. The result shows the payment quarter, recovery period, income year, gross OAS, recovery, and remaining payment.
Not an individual eligibility decision
GIS, CPP, taxes outside the modeled recovery tax, time abroad, and individual application rules are excluded. Use the estimate for scenarios and confirm eligibility and current amounts with Service Canada.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the OAS pension amount in 2026?
OAS maximums are indexed quarterly. The calculator resolves the amount for its displayed rate period and does not project an unpublished later quarter.
What is the OAS clawback?
The OAS recovery tax applies above an annual net-world-income threshold. Payment amounts follow calendar quarters, while monthly recovery deductions follow July-to-June periods based on an earlier income year. The calculator resolves both contracts for the selected date.
Can I defer OAS?
Yes — you can defer OAS from age 65 to age 70. Each month of deferral increases your pension by 0.6%, for a maximum 36% increase at age 70.
Who can qualify for OAS?
Actual eligibility depends on age, residence history, and legal status. The calculator does not assess an application; it estimates a payment from the residence years entered.
How many years of residence do I need?
The model uses 40 years after age 18 for a full payment and accepts a partial-payment range from 10 to 40 years.
How is partial OAS estimated?
The modeled full monthly amount is multiplied by the residence years entered divided by 40.
