Rule date and sources

The estimate uses centrally maintained Canadian GST/HST rates current through 2026 and the regular method only.

From taxable revenue to GST/HST net tax

The calculator first estimates GST or HST collected on taxable revenue before tax. It then subtracts the input tax credits (ITCs) you enter. A positive difference is estimated remittance owing; a negative difference is shown as a potential refund amount.

How to use the calculator

  1. Select the reporting period covered by the revenue and ITCs.
  2. Enter taxable revenue excluding GST/HST.
  3. Select the province whose GST or HST rate applies to the supplies.
  4. Enter eligible ITCs from the same period and calculate the estimate.

Regular-method example

C$100,000 of taxable Ontario revenue produces an estimated C$13,000 of HST collected. Subtracting C$2,000 of eligible ITCs from the same period gives estimated remittance owing of C$11,000.

Rules outside this estimate

Selecting a province does not replace the CRA place-of-supply rules. The calculator does not verify documents, ITC eligibility, filing due dates, registration status, or prior balances. The Quick Method is intentionally excluded because its rate depends on additional business facts.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is GST/HST remittance calculated?
The calculator multiplies taxable revenue before tax by the applicable GST or HST rate, then subtracts the eligible ITCs you enter for the same period.
What are input tax credits?
ITCs can recover GST/HST paid by a registrant on eligible business purchases and expenses. The calculator accepts your entered amount but does not determine eligibility.
What documents do I need for ITCs?
You generally need invoices or other records containing the information required by the CRA. The calculator cannot verify documentation or retention obligations.
Is the Quick Method included?
No. Its rate depends on facts including business type, permanent establishment, and place of supply. A province selector alone would imply misleading precision.
How do I determine the correct provincial rate?
CRA place-of-supply rules determine which GST or HST rate applies. Select a province only after identifying the applicable place of supply.
Which period and rule date does the result cover?
Revenue and ITCs must cover the same selected reporting period. Central GST/HST rates were reviewed through 2026; prior balances and filing due dates are excluded.
