Countdown Calculator
Show the precise duration until or since a local date with a transparent counting method.
Days, hours, minutes, and seconds form a running duration. Calendar components compare local dates and may group the interval differently.
How to start the countdown
Optionally enter an event name, choose the local target date and time, and decide whether the separate calendar-day count should include today. The button starts the live display; a past target is automatically treated as elapsed time.
Duration and calendar time are different views
The main countdown divides the absolute interval into full 24-hour days and remaining clock units. Duration weeks group those days in sevens. Calendar difference instead counts whole calendar years, months, and days.
Including or excluding today
Without the option, calendar days equal the gap between the two local date values. Enabling it adds the current calendar day. It does not change the second-by-second countdown.
Example of different grouping
From the end of one month to the next can be exactly one calendar month but 28, 29, 30, or 31 duration days. “One month” is therefore not the same as “30 days.”
Local time zone and daylight saving
The field is interpreted in the browser’s local zone. Daylight-saving changes can make two local midnights less or more than 24 hours apart. Calendar days remain date-based, while running duration follows actual milliseconds.
Sharing without a stored result
The fragment state contains the target and counting option. It is not sent to a server. When opened, duration is recalculated from the browser’s current time; the freely entered event name remains local.
